Chicago's 50+ Roller Skaters Roll Back the Years

Directed, produced, and edited by Jude Appleby in Chicago in 2024, this film explores the culture and legacy of the city’s 50+ roller skating community. Blending observational documentary filmmaking with stylized visuals, the project highlights the joy, discipline, and lifelong connection that skating continues to provide for its participants.

Centered around The Rink Chicago and the people who keep the culture alive, the film captures movement, music, and community with an intimate cinematic approach. Through interviews, vérité moments, and dynamic skating footage, the piece reflects how roller skating remains both a form of expression and a lasting social space across generations.
